Elie Saab

Sigh, where do I begin....besides Oscar De La Renta (whom I have privately nicknames ossci) Elie Saab (who needs no nickname cause Elie is just FABULOUS) is one of if not my most favourite designer. For those who don’t know me I am a sucker for weddings if not for the food and dancing primarily for the gorgeous and elaborate wedding dresses. When I first started to research wedding planning and events I started at the dress. Ever since the first sighting of an Elie Saab wedding gown I have been hooked line and sinker for the Lebanese fashion designer. Elie Saab born July 4, 1964, Saab is self-trained. He started sewing as a child and knew that one day he would make a living out of it. In 1981 he moved to Paris to study fashion, but ended up returning and opening his workshop/ fashion label when he was 18 years in 1982. In 1997 Saab was the first non-Italian designer to become a member of the Italian Camera Nazionale della Moda, and showed his first collection outside Lebanon in Rome. In 1998, he started ready-to-wear in Milan.

Aside from Saab is no stranger to thread carpet he became an overnight success after he became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner, Halle Berry, in 2002. Berry wore a burgundy gown by Saab to the 2002 Academy Awards when she won for Best Actress. In May 2003, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture invited him to become a member, and he showed his first haute couture collection in Paris in July 2003.Here are a few of his pieces on the red carpet including the famous Halle Berry gown.
