Mirror Mirror Costume Design-Eiko Ishioka

I felt so passionate about this next post however extremely saddened by the news that I now have to share with you. I experienced magic today in the cinema that I have not experienced since my love for “Memoirs of a Gesiha” costume design. I knew instantly that I had to blog about the costume design in Mirror Mirror. I am now sadden however to tell you that upon researching the esteemed costume designer Eiko Ishioka I discovered that she passed away in January of this year. The costume designer before her death from pancreatic cancer has had a prolific and fascinating career.
On further research I learnt that Ishioka has a wide range of work from costume design to music videos, and her costumes have inspired many of our favourite fashion designers, including Alexander McQueen and Viktor and Rolf. Eiko Ishioka won a Grammy award, two Tony awards, and an Oscar. Her clothes have appeared in museums, on stage for both Broadway musicals such as Cirque du Soleil and operas, Grace Jone’s 2009 “Hurricane” tour and at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Late last year Ishioka also did the costumes for the film "Immortals".
Mirror Mirror is dedicated to Ishioka’s memory and would be reason enough to see it. Ishioka’s final work on the film I can guarantee will leave a lasting impression on all the viewers young and old. It has been said that the great designer knew she only had one more film left in her, so she put her all into it, and through it her legacy and knowledge of elaborate costuming shall live on!

Zuhair Murad

Zuhair Murad like Elie Saab is a Lebanese designer his silhouettes are feminine show stopping and breathe taking. His lavish creations, in sensational colours and extraordinary fabrics, are reminiscent of Egyptian princesses, Grecian goddesses and pure, glorious splendour, complete with an edgy twist that modernizes. In 1995, Zuhair Murad opened his first atelier in Beirut and not long after he came to establish a very high reputation on the international fashion scene. He is no stranger to the red carpet either, stars like JLO enjoy wearing his creations to show off her legs and accentuate her best features. Charlotte Olympia

One of my favourite things besides clothes on the red carpet has to be the shoes and who can blame me. The A-list celebrities and who’s who of the red carpet always bring it. Lately I have been noticing a lot of Charlotte Olympia on the red carpet as well as off, stars have been rocking this British designers pieces on an everyday basis, and soon the spider web of Charlotte Olympia will become a household name and will be as recognisable as the red soles of Louboutins. Charlotte Olympia Dellal is a half English, half Brazilian, British luxury accessories designer. Having studied at London’s Cordwainers, Charlotte started the process of setting up her label upon graduation in 2004. Charlotte spent time interning at Giambattista Valli in Paris before launching her successful London-based shoe brand Charlotte Olympia in 2007. Her shoe soles carry her signature spider’s web. (One can only assume she thought of that spider web as her theme from the famous charlotte’s web story). Charlotte has exclaimed that her career highlight was “opening my first store in July 2010 in Mayfair, London.” Charlotte Olympia won the Accessory Designer award at the British Fashion Awards 2011. With Dellal's tried and true mantra is "the higher the heel, the better," She’s my kind of girl!!
