The opening of Westfield Stratford did not disappoint. It happened on th 13.09.11. Some thousands of consumers queued for up to 20 hours, many camping out from the night before the grand opening, hoping to take advantage of the deals and offers of the day. Ranging from £50 vouchers to 23% off total bills. when i arrived at 5pm the shopping centre was still heaving of people showing little signs of dying down. If I must be honest the architecture itself wasn't much to be desired or rave about really however the the design of the continuous curved glass roof and steel structure was very appealing visually from every angle within the shopping centre.
Without any doubt the real beauty of Westfield Stratford lies within as many of the stores that are housed within are flagship stores therefore the interiors are lavish and extraordinarily decorated, and to quote mu good friend Ghana they are all doing their "REAL" meaning no corner was left un-turned as each store pulled out the stops and it was beautifully executed. Some of the stores even had DJs while others (quite rudely if i must say) played their music many octaves too loud to the point where you could not hear yourself think. The most visually appealing stores were Topshop, Dorthy Perkins, Berksa, Vera Moda, The Sting, and Zara.
I for one must say that the highlight of my evening was crossing the beautifully lit and designed bridge. Standing at the end of it was like being another city it was breath taking the regeneration of Stratford has started off with great class and appeal. Can't wait to see the complete end results of the new and improved Stratford City. Well done Newham!!
